MRI PSO Drop Zone Response to the Basel Action Network Report on Illegal Exports

14 August 2018

The Drop Zone program mentioned in the Basel Action Network (BAN) report is managed by MRI PSO, an approved co-regulatory arrangement under the federal government’s National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS).  MRI PSO welcomes studies which accurately test e-waste collection and recycling processes around the globe.  Transparency and best practice are key elements in a successful ewaste program.

However, MRI PSO is shocked by the outcomes of the BAN report, and specifically the final location of two of the eight items dropped off by the BAN at various Drop Zone sites.  In response to the report, MRI PSO immediately commenced an investigation and is currently in discussion with relevant collectors (i.e. Officeworks), transporters, recyclers and the BAN.

MRI PSO chooses its collection and recycling partners very carefully. We are committed to ensuring high quality environmental, social and ethical outcomes, and compliance with all relevant Australian and international regulations and standards.

All enquiries regarding this matter should be directed to MRI PSO Managing Director, Will LeMessurier – wlemessurier@mri.com.au.
